HISTORY

A legacy through generations.

It all began in the 1920s, when Mrs. Laneve, the original owner of the hotel, married Luigi Farace.
They had no children, but Luigi came from a large family. That’s how Il Leon D’Oro naturally became part of the Farace family’s story.

The legacy was carried forward by Pantaleone Farace and his brother Franco, who ran the hotel together with care and vision.
After Franco’s passing, Pantaleone continued the work alone, strengthening the hotel’s presence day after day.

In 1934, Luigi Farace was born. He would go on to inherit the hotel and uphold the family tradition with respect and foresight, guiding the hotel’s growth alongside the city itself.
In 1970, he took over full management of Il Leon D’Oro and led the hotel’s first major renovation in 1972.

In the late 1970s, Bari’s new urban development plan (Quaroni) transformed the city.
Il Leon D’Oro was demolished and rebuilt entirely: from a historic four-story building with 70 rooms, it became a modern structure with 11 floors above ground and two underground, for a total of 74 rooms.
 It marked a new beginning — rooted in continuity.

In 1992, Pantaleone Farace was born, son of Luigi and the next in line.

In 2000, Luigi Farace acquired the former Jolly Hotel Bari, which officially became Hotel Excelsior Bari in 2001.

In 2016, Pantaleone inherited both hotels, bringing with him a renewed vision and a commitment to evolving the story with care and energy.

This is how Farace Hotels was born.

Dal 1920 custodiamo il valore dell’ospitalità con attenzione, presenza e coerenza, offrendo

Tutto ha inizio negli anni Venti del Novecento, quando la signora Laneve, proprietaria dell’hotel, sposa Luigi Farace, zio del nonno.
Non ebbero figli, ma Luigi era parte di una famiglia numerosa. Fu così che il Leon D’Oro entrò, naturalmente, nella storia della famiglia Farace.
A raccogliere l’eredità furono Pantaleone Farace, il nonno, e Franco Farace, suo fratello. Insieme, iniziarono a gestire l’hotel con dedizione e lungimiranza.

Dopo la scomparsa di zio Franco, nonno Pantaleone continuò il percorso da solo, consolidando il legame con la struttura, giorno dopo giorno.

Nel frattempo, nel 1972, nasce Luigi Farace, figlio di Pantaleone. È lui a ricevere in eredità l’hotel, mantenendo viva la tradizione di famiglia. Una responsabilità portata avanti con rispetto e visione, mentre l’hotel continuava a crescere insieme alla città.

A fine anni ’70, il nuovo piano regolatore Quaroni cambia il volto urbano di Bari. Il Leon D’Oro viene demolito e completamente ricostruito: da edificio storico di quattro piani e settanta camere, diventa una struttura moderna con undici piani fuori terra e due interrati, per un totale di 74 camere.
Un cambiamento che segna un nuovo inizio, nel segno della continuità.

Poi arriva un’altra generazione.
Nel tempo nasce Pantaleone Farace, nipote di nonno Pantaleone, figlio di Luigi. Nel 2016, diventa a sua volta proprietario dell’hotel, portando con sé uno sguardo nuovo, pronto a rinnovare la storia con energia e rispetto.

Il 25 novembre 2019, il Leon D’Oro chiude le sue porte per iniziare una nuova trasformazione.
Un progetto importante, profondo, che guarda lontano.
Oggi, l’hotel si prepara a scrivere un nuovo capitolo portando con sé una tradizione che non si è mai interrotta, ma che oggi si rinnova per accogliere nuove storie, nuovi sguardi, con lo stesso calore di una volta.
